Some quick thoughts:

There are two surprises on the pitching staff, each resulting in questions about expected Tacoma players.

Dylan Unsworth is apparently slotting into the rotation replacing Cody Martin, who we expected to start with Tacoma. His absence is surprising – I’ll get more info as soon as I can.

Ryne Harper will make his Triple-A debut after four full seasons at the Double-A level with a 2.27 ERA in 234 innings, notching 282 strikeouts. He appears to be replacing Jonathan Aro, who is not listed and was expected to open with Tacoma.

Reports from the Mariners beat writers say that reliever Dillon Overton – who made the team – is going to miss the first couple of games on paternity leave. It’s possible the Mariners could be calling up Martin or Aro to fill his spot. But it is odd that both are missing from Tacoma’s roster.

The position players are in line with what was expected. Note that Boog Powell has to serve five more games of his suspension from last year, so he isn’t eligible to be activated until the home opener on April 11. The team will have to make several moves at that time: adding Boog to the 40-man roster again, and clearing space in Tacoma.

I’ll post some preseason thoughts on the team Tuesday. We have a workout and media day on Monday so I can gather some notes and information to pass along to you then.
