Rainiers Denied Series Win

Albuquerque dismissed Tacoma’s bid for its first series win since early May, claiming a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the five-game set. Albuquerque won the series, three games to two.

The Rainiers had good pitching on Sunday, but they couldn’t put together any rallies on offense. Both Tacoma runs scored on solo homers, and the team left nine runners on base.

The first homer was hit by Abraham Almonte to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Coupled with Xavier Avery‘s first-inning shot on Saturday night, Tacoma has had a leadoff homer in the first inning in two straight games. That would be a fun streak to see continue tonight.

Now the Rainiers go on an eight-game road trip to Tennessee, with four games in Memphis followed by four games in Nashville. This is Tacoma’s first cross-conference stretch of the season: sixteen straight games against American Conference foes.

Monday’s game starts at 5:05 (Pacific) – the Alaska Airlines Pregame Show begins at 1:20 on South Sound Sports 850 AM and streaming online right here. Tacoma starts RHP Taijuan Walker (0-1, 9.00) against Memphis LHP Tim Cooney (6-4, 3.59).

Sorry, no links today other than the Rainiers game story from The News Tribune, and the paper’s piece on Felix Hernandez‘s 15-strikeout masterpiece. Travelling from Tacoma to Memphis ain’t no peach.
