The Mariners just announced the majority of the Tacoma coaching staff for 2012.
Daren Brown will return for his sixth season as Tacoma’s manager. Brown is 22 wins away from tying Dan Rohn as the winningest manager in Tacoma franchise history.
Brown’s club went 70-74 last year, which was a rarity in itself: it was only the fourth time in his 14-year minor league managerial career that his team finished under .500.
Joining Brown once again is pitching coach Dwight Bernard. Dwight is back for his sixth season as the Rainiers pitching coach.
I’m a big fan of both Daren and Dwight, and I’m glad they are coming back.
We still need a hitting coach – the Mariners press release listed the position as “TBD.” I just scoured BaseballReference.com and could not find any ex-players with the initials T.B.D., so I guess this means they are still working on hiring for the position.
The Mariners also announced that the Terrible Trinity of Trainers Tom Newberg, Jeremy Clipperton, and Charlie Kenyon will return to Tacoma as well.
